From Beau L'Amour: Many people have written in and asked for a catalogue of Louis's library.
I don't have that on hand but here is a listing of the books that
he read at many times in his life and when he read them. Louis was
mostly self-educated, having gone through only the first half of the
tenth grade. Occasionly he would be asked by a youngster if he thought
that it was a good idea to drop out of school or to skip college (this
was a common request in the 1960s and most of these kids were looking
for him to support the concept), he would respond by telling them
that it was a terrible idea, that he had been hampered his whole life
by an inadequate education, and to not even consider it if they didn't
think that they could read from over one hundred works of non-fiction
a year for the rest of their lives. On the following pages you will
see that Louis was speaking from experience.
